The Fiji government announced that it is planning to reopen its borders for international tourists by November. The CEO of Tourism Fiji, Brent Hill said that the date to reopen is still a moving target since the government expects to reach the target of having at least 80% of its eligible population vaccinated.

The tourism sector in Fiji accounts for thousands of jobs as it is the biggest industry there. Faiyaz Koya, Minister for Commerce, Tourist, Trade, and Transport announced on September 3, that “we are working towards a November reopening”. He also said that we will reduce our community transmission and make Fiji a safe holiday destination to welcome back the tourists.

Fiji’s airline will play a major role after the reopening. Brent Hill confirmed that Fiji Airways is putting back a schedule and will be opening across a number of their ports. There will also be resort and flight deals as an offer after reopening.

Hill also said, “Everybody is eager to get things back to normal, Fiji is ready and waiting for tourists”.

Brent Hill claimed that travelers from the ‘green list’ nations with evidence of vaccination and negative COVID PCR test will be allowed to enter only.
